About The Arrhythmia Institute

“The heart's health is closely tied to a regular rhythm and a dependable heartbeat, governed by a system of electrical impulses. A problem with this system, known as arrhythmia, may be life-threatening or trigger debilitating symptoms. In fact, cardiac arrhythmias are the single most common cause of death in the United States , accounting for 300,000 to 400,000 deaths annually and responsible for more than 1 million hospitalizations – numbers that will only increase as the population continues to age.

The St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospital ’s Arrhythmia Service is among the world's leaders in treating electrical disorders of the heart. Performing more than 2,500 procedures annually, the Arrhythmia Service is the largest such program in the New York metropolitan area. The Service's 17-member clinical team is dedicated to providing curative therapy for virtually all cardiac arrhythmias by using highly innovative and complex catheter techniques and improving the welfare and outcome of patients with heart disease through the use of sophisticated implantable devices. In addition, St. Luke's and Roosevelt 's Arrhythmia Service conducts ongoing research, investigating new treatments to prevent the arrhythmic conditions of atrial fibrillation and sudden death.

To advance the arrhythmia field and raise awareness of the latest, lifesaving treatments, St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals will soon establish the Al-Sabah Arrhythmia Institute that will consolidate the Service's physical plant in one state-of-the-art facility and serve as a think tank for advanced arrhythmia care, training and research. The first such center in the United States , the Institute's mission and purpose will be to provide outstanding arrhythmia care, offer physician and patient education and train tomorrow's specialists, while conducting ongoing research to clarify the mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias and develop improved methods for diagnosis and treatment.”
